THE COLLEGE OF ALICE & PETER TAN

The College of Alice & Peter Tan (CAPT) is an undergraduate residential college in the National University of Singapore. It offers a 2-year living-learning programme (the University Town College Programme) to students across all faculties and schools in NUS. The programme is designed to equip students to think critically, appreciate complexity, communicate effectively and become constructive and responsible members of the community. CAPT emphasizes community engagement and active citizenship and provides a wide range of opportunities for experiential learning, both in and outside the classroom.

We invite applicants who are keen to contribute to the educational mission of the College to fill the following position(s):


CALL FOR FACULTY FELLOWS

The College of Alice & Peter Tan is inviting applications for the position of Faculty Fellow commencing in January or July of 2019. NUS teaching staff who are interested to teach in the University Town College Programme and to contribute to the scholarly life of the College, are welcome to apply.

Fellows will have teaching responsibilities in the College curriculum, which is constructed around small group seminar-style modules for first and second year students. These multi-disciplinary modules cover a diverse range of topics, but have in common a focus on developing critical thinking, breadth of knowledge and an informed perspective of issues that are relevant to society.

Faculty Fellows will remain members of their home Faculty/Department and will be offered joint appointments in the College. Benefits and obligations will vary with the appointment.

We are seeking faculty with a combination of the following characteristics and interests:

  • Enthusiasm for teaching and a strong undergraduate teaching portfolio
  • Commitment to mentoring and interacting with students outside the classroom
  • Evidence of research activity and reputation; interest in and aptitude for applying scholarly approaches to teaching
  • Interest in collaborative (multi-/interdisciplinary) teaching, and in working in teams

CALL FOR LECTURER

This is a full-time position on the Educator Track which is offered for two or three years in the first instance and are renewable.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead or facilitate seminar-style modules offered by the College as part of the University Town College Programme.
  • Mentor and supervise groups of students involved in the Capstone Experience, independent study modules or other modes of learning.
  • Facilitate informal learning, provide advice for student-led interest groups, mentor student leaders.
  • Assist with developing and coordinating aspects of the College curriculum
  • Other ad-hoc projects as and when assigned.

CALL FOR (a) RESEARCH ASSOCIATE / (b) RESEARCH ASSISTANT

CAPT seeks applicants who are interested in working on scholarly projects relating to teaching and learning in the College. This is a full-time position which is offered for a 1-2 year appointment in the first instance and is renewable.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist faculty members to develop, implement, manage and evaluate projects related to the learning objectives of the University Town College Programme. Opportunities for direct involvement in teaching and learning activities will be provided.
  • Support the development of academic reading groups and other programmes that provide a platform for students, faculty and other experts to engage in scholarly exchange and research.
  • Assist faculty in employing scholarly approaches to enhance the academic activities and enrich the learning environment of the College.
  • Other ad-hoc projects as and when assigned.
