ACE Week 2012
08 Oct 2012 - 12 Oct 2012
Event Navigation
ACE Week aims to mark the inauguration of community engagement activities in CAPT (then called Angsana College). The events planned for ACE Week were intended to shed some light on some of the causes students could potentially work for, as well as groups they could help to support.
Visit to Professor Brawn Café
A group of students visited Professor Brawn Café on 9 October 2012. Professor Brawn Café is a social enterprise which employs people with special needs. Through this visit, students interested in social enterprises gained insight into how social enterprises are established and maintained.
Youth-at-Risk Sharing Session
At the youth-at-risk session on 7 October, students had a light, informal but insightful conversation with Dr Tan from CARE Singapore, a registered charity and youth development agency. Through Dr Tan’s sharing, the students better understood issues of the youth-at-risk issue.
Trip to Dialogue in the Dark
On 12 October 2012, students went to Ngee Ann Polytechnic for a Dialogue in the Dark session. Dialogue in the Dark entails that students had to perform various everyday activities in complete darkness, with the help of guides who are themselves blind. Through the one hour session, students briefly experienced life from the shoes of a visually-impaired indicvidual; this enabled them to empathise with their perspective.
Pass It On Cards
Pass It On Cards was built on the belief that ‘community’ does not merely encompass the wider Singaporean community; rather, the word includes the College’s community as well. To build community spirit within the College, small pass-it-on cards were designed with little tasks on them that encouraged random acts of kindness. The purpose of the pass-it-on cards was not just to encourage simple acts of kindness during ACE week; rather, they also served as a timely reminder that these acts should be part of our daily lives.
