Artist-in-Residence Programme 2016

11 Jan 2016 - 07 May 2016

This year, sculptor and arts worker, Mr Chris Gilmour, spent a live-in semester in CAPT under the auspices of the Artist-in-Residence (AiR) programme. AiR provides an avenue for distinguished and talented artists to share their expertise and creative work with members of the college community, and in doing so, enrich the College’s residential life and learning.

Chris, who has worked in the arts for over 20 years, believes that fine art practice can be combined with the social potential of art; when he is not creating artwork, he organises workshops and community projects which harness the power of active participation in art. He shared his belief about art and about his various experiences in the arts during his Master’s Tea session, titled Talking Art outside the Box, held on 28 January 2016.

In his stint at CAPT, Chris held workshops that taught his unique brand of sculpting (he uses cardboard and paper to create intricate hyper-realistic sculptures) to CAPTains. Throughout the semester, he not only supported CAPTain’s sculpting projects, but also helped to craft five new sculptures that represent each CAPT neighbourhood. At the end of his stay, Chris gifted an original sculpture to CAPT.
