This is the third year CAPT Kamal organised an overseas service learning trip to India, the team continued its partnership with the Dream School Foundation. This year, the trip involved planning and executing summer camps for students from vulnerable socio-economic backgrounds. The CAPT Kamal 2018 team aimed to inspire and encourage the pursuit of knowledge and character development through both academic and non-academic programs.
With this being the third iteration of CAPT Kamal, the team built upon the previous trips by providing a more holistic curriculum to the students in Dream School Foundation. CAPTains focused on tailoring the vacation school curriculum to suit the state curriculum and emphasised on hands-on learning and life skills to provide a well-rounded learning experience.
This iteration also involved a new partner, TalentEase, to inspire and educate first-generation learners from the villages in Yelagiri Hills. An emphasis on the use of English as the medium of communication through a curated reading program and the improvement of St Charles’ School’s library was the focus of this year’s partnership.
From the trip, CAPTains had the opportunity to interact with locals and were introduced to the vibrant culture of India and its traditions. The mutual learning and shared experiences benefitted both the community and CAPTains alike.
