CAPTClouds 2018 is the third iteration of CAPT’s service learning trip to the Yunnan Province of China, focusing on the Kunming as well as Lijiang prefecture. The highlights for this year’s iteration of CAPT Clouds include a day programme with university students from the Lijiang Teacher’s College, where CAPTains attended ‘English night’ organised by English Club, and a programme with children from Liangmei Primary School and Miao Zu Drop-In Centre. This programme covered values-oriented topics which include mental wellness and aspirations and goal setting. CAPTains also planted trees and crops as well as painted the front mural of a primary school as part of their service activity. On top of that, CAPTCloud partners also shared about the challenges the minorities like Na Xi and Miao ethnic groups faced allowing CAPTains to gained better understanding of the underlying issues the communities face. The trip ended with a ‘Rest and Relaxation’ segment to Guan Yin Xia and UNESCO’s World Heritage Site, Lijiang Old Town. All in all, this trip is a valuable opportunity for CAPTains to serve in a different setting with a different community – closer to nature and closer to the heart.
