CAPTSLAM Queensway is a leadership mentoring programme for Secondary 3 student leaders from Queensway Secondary School. CAPTains (mentors) engage with our mentees through a series of mentoring sessions curated by the mentors. These sessions focus on developing essential leadership skills such as communication and collaboration in an attempt to aid the mentees in their leadership journey. To conclude the programme, mentees are given the opportunity to apply what they have learnt previously during an overseas trip. It also provides CAPTains with the opportunity to engage in cultural exchange while enjoying the fruits of their labour over the past academic year.
For the 5th iteration of CAPTSLAM Queensway (AY24/25), we embarked on an overseas trip to Thailand (Saraburi and Bangkok) with our mentees for the very first time (since COVID 19). Due to previous travel restrictions, past iterations were unable to bring mentees along, making this trip especially significant.
We collaborated with Chulalongkorn University’s Centre for Learning Network for the Region (CLNR) at Saraburi where CLNR organised workshops and activities for both our mentors and mentees to learn more about the sustainability efforts in the area. Several students from local Thai schools also participated in the programmes with us which spanned across a few days. We interacted with not only our mentees but also our international peers through the hands-on activities planned by us and the mentees as well. This created valuable opportunities for cultural exchange as well as collaboration.

After several days in CLNR at Saraburi, we bade farewell to our Thai friends and made our way to Bangkok. We visited popular attractions such as the Grand Palace and the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market where we got to learn about the history of Thailand as well as their culture.
From the many lessons we learnt to the countless memories made, this trip was definitely a fruitful and memorable one for both our mentors and mentees. This trip was a first for many of us, but certainly not the last. We look forward to future iterations of CAPTSLAM Queensway as we continue to strive to nurture leaders who excel in their own right.
