‘IN CONVERSATION’ with Caroline Casey – “Looking Past Limits”

Ms Caroline Casey is a former management consultant with Accenture, Caroline who is visually impaired to the degree that she is registered as legally blind. Despite her disability, a fact that her parents kept from her till her 17th birthday to avoid labels and restrictions on her ability, Caroline became the first Irish person elected to the Young Global Leaders of the World Economic Forum and first Irish social entrepreneur to receive the Eisenhower Fellowship. She is also the first western woman to achieve the status of elephant mahout, an accomplishment she was awarded having completed a 1,000 kilometer trek across India to raise money for charity on an elephant named Kanchi.

Caroline Casey has dedicated the past decade of her life to changing how global society views people with disabilities. As the founder of Kanchi (formerly known as The Aisling Foundation) in Dublin, she developed a set of best practices (based on ISO9000 quality standards) for businesses, to help them see “disabled” workers as an asset as opposed to a liability.
