05 Nov 2013

Professor David L. Heymann is currently in NUS as the Courage Fund Visiting Professor. He is a Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine; Head of the Centre on Global Health Security at Chatham House, London and Chairman of Public Health England, UK.  Previously he was the World Health Organization’s Assistant Director-General for Health Security and Environment, and Representative of the Director-General for polio eradication.

Synopsis: Our global health protection is ensured by a series of actions of the World Health Organization and its Member States through global collaboration.  The collaboration includes use of evidence-based technical guidelines; and political will that is expressed in resolutions, global regulations and treaties. Taken together these technical and political instruments create global solidarity and the means to achieve global health protection goals.
