‘IN CONVERSATION’ with Ir. Salome Bentinck (Senior Researcher, Delft University of Technology) – “The Digital Campus and Other Dilemmas”

05 Mar 2014

Face to face communication is still important in the development of knowledge and innovation. However accessibility of scientists for colleagues and students is limited by their drive to outperform. The digital possibilities seem even more to increase the lack of serendipity encounters. Can spatial lay-out help to get people on campus and out of their rooms? How will social media and MOOCs effect campus requirements? What are the characteristics of  places where people meet accidentally?

Ir. Bentinck presented some dilemmas in campus planning that effects students, faculty and researchers. Insights that came up by my research ‘University is a place to be’ and the case studies she did on the universities in Netherlands, based on my experience as a Real Estate developer for the University of Amsterdam.
