Master’s Tea Series – AY2016/2017 Semester 1

01 Aug 2016 - 03 Dec 2016

The College organizes Master’s Teas on a regular basis, which are open to all students. This academic year, speakers have included Dr Tim Huxley (Executive Director, International Institute for Strategic Studies – Asia), Dr Christopher Cheok (Consultant Psychiatrist, Institute of Mental Health), Professor Rod Downey (Victoria University of Wellington), Prof Tan Tai Yong (Yale-NUS College) and Mr Donald Low  (Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy) among others. Master’s Teas provide an opportunity for students to think beyond their usual disciplinary boundaries about issues that are important to society, or simply to explore a novel area, and to be stretched intellectually. The talks and discussions this semester have spanned topics such as regional security, inequalities, the scope of mental illness in our community, the application of mathematics to solving complex everyday problems, and the art and science of leadership in global health. These sessions, attended by about 20-30 students, offer valuable opportunities for meaningful dialogue and for learning.
