Urgent Run (World Toilet Organisation & CAPT Collaboration)

28 Oct 2017

Written by Ng Wan Jee The Urgent Run is a 5-kilometre fun run organised by the World Toilet Organisation (WTO) on 28 October 2017. The run aimed to raise awareness of global sanitation issues. 55 CAPTains took part in the run. CAPTains also invited and sponsored youths from the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore (CPAS) and Running Hour (an inclusive running club made up of volunteers where members include people with mild intellectual challenges, physical challenges and visual challenges) for the run.  In preparation for the run, CAPTains visited the community partners and learn about the special needs associated with their disabilities. Partners were also invited to visit CAPT where they had a fruitful dialogue session. On the day of the event, CAPTains volunteered as guides for the visually challenged runners from Running Hour and for the youths from CPAS. Together, they did a “collective squatting exercise” to symbolise the sanitation issues faced by millions worldwide.

The Urgent Run was indeed a meaningful event as it allowed participants to interact with one another, as they (literally) ran to support the significant cause of global sanitation rights.
