CAPT Student Symposium 2021: Challenging Stereotypes through Tilt-Shift
20 Feb 2021
Event Navigation
Held once every two years, the student-led symposium brings students, experts and community leaders together to showcase their work, share ideas and make new connections in Community Engagement.
This year’s CAPTISS took place on 20 February 2021 and was inspired by “Tilt-Shift”, a photography technique that allows one to capture more in a frame by actively tilting one’s lens, as well as shifting one’s orientation. The conference adopted a hybrid format, comprising four online panels with ten small-group discussions and an opening forum.
The opening forum formed the highlight of the conference. We had the honour of inviting five distinguished speakers – founder of Happy Children Happy Future (HCHF), Mr Gary Lau, founder of ACRES, Mr Louis Ng, director of The Thought Collective, Ms Kuik Shiao-Yin, art educator and Master of RVRC Prof Greg Petersen, and CAPT alumni Ms Clare Cheong.
From themes of health and environment, resilience-focused education, diverse families to longevity economics, the day-long conference encouraged students to tackle stereotypes head-on and apply on a more holistic and nuanced view towards everyday social issues.
