Food For Thought

Food For Thought is a group of environmentally conscious students coming together to raise awareness of the astronomical amount of food waste produced in CAPT-RC4 dining hall. In partnership with NUS Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, the team brought in a mobile anaerobic digester (the size of a shipping container) to localise the benefits of food waste digestate – electricity and fertiliser. To further reinforce their message, the team used a plethora of media (memes, mascots, posters and videos) to reach out to students with the aim to reduce plate waste production.

The Food For Thought research project has definitely illuminated the gaps present in students’ attitudes towards food waste and have proposed varied recommendations to continue to tackle food waste in the college.
