@27 Family Service Centre

From May to July 2021, we interned with @27 Family Service Centre (@27FSC) to get a better understanding of the various roles that a worker in the social service sector plays. A social services organization under Montfort Care, @27FSC is situated in Telok Blangah serving residents within this community.
Our work focused on four main components: 1) Research on the food aid distribution programmes offered by @27FSC, 2) Conduct an online holiday programme for P5 and P6 children, 3) Manage casework, and 4) Conduct ad-hoc work (for example, conducting house visits, attending meetings held by other organizations under Montfort Care, etc.). While executing these initiatives, we understood more about the roles of a social/case worker, the inherent systemic issues in the country, as well as the tools and soft-skills needed to better help those in need.
Due to the prevailing restrictions, our internship had to be carried out from home. However, we had a few opportunities to go down to the office and that enabled us to learn more about the day-to-day operations.
“This internship has highlighted the importance of being intentional about our actions, and reflecting on the ramification of our actions. Beyond the work we have done, this experience reinforced the importance of recognizing and utilizing the strengths of the community to facilitate sustainable impact.”
