The community internship module was an incredibly valuable experience for us. With Ms Sue Chang-Koh as our CAPT supervisor, we underwent an internship at the Tribunal for Maintenance of Parents (TMP), which is part of the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF). This opportunity was special because it enabled us to experience the government’s role in community engagement firsthand, after learning about it in our senior seminar module.

Throughout the course of the internship, topics about responsibility for elderly care and the family as a unit were recurring themes. Over many conversations and discussions, our perspective on these issues have broadened and we learnt to view people and situations with greater empathy. In addition, we were exposed to the working environment in the public sector, more specifically, MSF. During our time there, we were impressed by the passion and sincerity our supervisors and colleagues had in serving this community in Singapore; they ever willing to go the extra mile to help others. Through reflections of our internship experiences with our CAPT supervisor, we gained a deeper understanding of the importance of the values and principles CAPT continuously promotes and its place in our society. All in all, the community internship module was an eye-opening experience for us and a great opportunity for CAPTains to apply what we learnt in CAPT in the working world.
